To find out a little more about Charlotte’s work, we asked her the following questions:

What inspires your work?

I’m very influenced by place, I take constant inspiration from the world around me and the excitement of new places. I’m also deeply influenced by books and the nuanced ways stories can be told. I find the composition of words and the space authors leave for their writers to figure things out an inspiration in how to approach illustration in new ways.

Tell us a bit about your writing/illustration process.

My process varies for different projects, normally it is quite instinctive, responding to how to tackle the brief in a way that feels natural. Often it starts with lots of sketching and silly ideas, I always find I have too many ideas at once so getting them all down in any form to begin with is always useful. I mostly work by hand but sometimes compile hand drawn elements together digitally.
